How to take your essential oils everywhere: the on-the-go kit
Abyss Glass
You love your olfactory routine at home, but as soon as you go out, your bottle of essential oil stays on the shelf. Yet olfaction really comes into its own when you can come back to it anywhere, at the office, on the train, out on a walk. You still need to take it with you without breakage, without leaks, without a big bag. Here is how to put together a simple on-the-go kit, and the right habits for having your essential oils within reach of your nose wherever you are.
Why an on-the-go kit changes everything
A standard bottle of essential oil is small, but fragile: amber glass, a dropper, a cap that can come unscrewed at the bottom of your bag. And even if it survives the journey, it is still not very practical to take out at the right moment. A mini kit designed for life on the move spares you all that, and above all, it makes you want to come back to it during the day, which makes all the difference in olfactotherapy.
We explain the principle in our dedicated article: what is olfactotherapy.
The on-the-go kit in practice
Here are the essentials to slip into your bag, from the most makeshift to the most refined:

The bottle remains the basis if you want to keep the choice of scent on the fly, as long as you protect it (hard case, zip-lock bag). The handkerchief allows dry inhalation in two seconds but evaporates and gets lost. The aroma stick is the functional option, covered in our article aroma stick. And olfactotherapy jewelry is the only one you wear on you all the time.
Protecting your bottles on the move
A few good habits to avoid unpleasant surprises:
- Opt for a hard case or a small pouch with compartments for glass bottles.
- Put everything in a zip-lock bag: if there is a small leak, the bag contains it, not your notebook.
- Avoid sudden changes in temperature: no bottle in full sun on the dashboard in summer, for example.
- On a plane, follow the rule for liquids in the cabin (100 ml maximum per container, in a 1-liter transparent bag).
Travel light: fewer bottles, more uses
The classic mistake is to set off with ten oils "just in case". In practice, two or three are more than enough, to be chosen according to the moment: a soothing one (true lavender, sweet orange), an invigorating one (peppermint, lemon) and a seasonal one (eucalyptus globulus in winter, for example). The simpler you keep it, the more you use it.
Precaution: peppermint and eucalyptus are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, young children and people with epilepsy. Always check the contraindications specific to each oil and ask a healthcare professional for advice if in doubt.
The most elegant option: the scent right on you
So that you have nothing left to take out, the simplest thing is to wear your essential oil on you. That is exactly what the Abyss Glass olfactotherapy® pendant allows: you place a few drops in it using a dropper, and the scent stays with you for several days. No more bottle to carry, no more handkerchief to look for. You also keep your oils within reach of your nose at home, on public transport or when traveling, as we discuss in our article essential oil while traveling.

Each pendant is flameworked, by hand, in a workshop in the Hautes-Pyrénées. To set off with everything you need, the olfactotherapy® gift box brings together the piece of jewelry, an essential oil of your choice, a dropper and a booklet. Discover the olfactotherapy pendants →
Frequently asked questions
Can you fly with essential oils?
Yes, provided you follow the rule for liquids in the cabin (bottles of 100 ml maximum, in a one-liter transparent bag). In the hold, there is no volume restriction, but protect your bottles well.
Are essential oils sensitive to heat?
Yes, heat and light damage them over time. Avoid full sun and high temperatures, and keep your bottles protected from them.
How many drops should you put on a handkerchief?
One to two drops are enough. There is no need to saturate the support, olfaction does not need more.
Can diffuser jewelry leak?
No, if it is filled according to the instructions, with 2 to 3 drops. And since it is worn around the neck, it does not have to travel at the bottom of a bag.
