How to use and care for essential oil diffuser jewelry
Abyss Glass
You have just bought a piece of essential oil diffuser jewelry, or you are thinking of wearing one, and you want to know how to use it properly and keep it looking beautiful for a long time. Good news: it is very simple, as long as you know the few gestures that make both the scent and the jewel last. Here is how to scent it, how to renew the scent, how to change oil, and the right care habits.
Before you start: what you need
To use diffuser jewelry, you need your jewel, an essential oil, and ideally a clean dropper or drop dispenser. The dropper lets you measure drop by drop without spilling, which is neater than a drop dispenser built into the bottle. If you are just starting out, the olfactotherapy® gift box includes everything you need.
How to scent diffuser jewelry
Here is the gesture in a few steps:
- Place the jewel on a clean surface, opening facing up (not on a fabric it could stain).
- Add two to three drops of essential oil with the dropper, directly into the cavity of the jewel for blown glass, or onto the stone/felt depending on the material.
- Wear it: the scent diffuses gently and stays with you for several days depending on the jewel.
When and how to renew the scent
As long as you can smell the scent when you bring the jewel up to your nose, there is no need to add more. When it fades, simply add two to three fresh drops, without cleaning in between. Do not saturate the jewel: too much oil does not diffuse more, it drips and stains.
How to change essential oil
To switch from one scent to another, you clean the inside of the glass: rinse it with alcohol using the dropper provided, draw the alcohol back out with the dropper, and add the new oil straight away.
Avoid layering two oils without rinsing: you would end up with an unbalanced blend.
Care: making the jewel last
A blown glass diffuser jewel is resistant but it is still a delicate piece of jewelry. A few rules:
- Avoid knocks against a hard surface: put it down gently.
- Avoid prolonged contact with water and contact with harsh products (alcohol-based perfume on the chain, soap).
- To clean the chain, a soft cloth is enough. For the glass pendant, a wipe with a microfiber cloth brings back its shine.
- Store it in a small pouch or a jewelry box when you are not wearing it, away from light.
Mistakes to avoid
Three classic pitfalls:
- Putting in too much oil: it overflows, it stains, and it does not diffuse any better.
- Using photosensitizing oils (citrus) if the piece is likely to transfer onto the skin, without taking precautions before sun exposure.
- Putting the oil on the chain instead of on the pendant itself: the chain does not diffuse and the oil damages it.
Precaution: some essential oils, including peppermint and eucalyptus, are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, young children or people with epilepsy. Always check the contraindications specific to each oil and ask a healthcare professional for advice if in doubt.

Depending on the jewel and the oil, several days for blown glass, a few hours for a lava stone bracelet.
Can you clean diffuser jewelry?
The glass pendant can be wiped with a soft cloth. Avoid prolonged contact with water and harsh products. The chain is cleaned dry. The inside is rinsed with alcohol using the dropper.
Can you wear diffuser jewelry in the shower?
